The second Saturday bird walk @ Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area
{LLELA} gave us more winter migrants. 55 species were seen. We walked the
Cicada & Cottonwood trails and then walked the fish hatchery ponds.
Before we could even get out of the parking lot there was a Bald Eagle flyover.
A Brewer’s Blackbird was in the grass paying no mind to any of us.
Everyone was surprised at the lack of waterfowl. A single female Redhead, some
Gadwall and Shovelers were it.
But on the plus side we were surprised to get great looks at a Sora hanging out
with the Coots, just casually walking among the lily pads with it’s little old
stiff tail sticking straight up! Several Wilson Snipes were also flushed.

Winter birds continue to arrive. Plenty of both Kinglets, Goldfinch, Winter
and Marsh Wrens, Franklin Gulls, an American Pipit, Pine Warbler, Yellow-rumps,
Flickers and Brown Creepers. Rounding out with sparrow varieties; , Song,
Swamp, Savannah, Lincoln, White-throated and Fox. {Grasshopper had been seen
earlier in the week.}
And not usually seen during daylight hours were a buck and 3 females and a
pair of bobcats playfully chasing each other in the power line greenbelt.
