Went out to the park around 9 to look for grasspipers. Lots of water in the park but not many pipers. Good numbers of cattle egrets and yellow-crowned night herons. One upland sandpiper on pigeon. Past the pistol range and toward the skeet range a small group of birds was out there over the ditch that included pectoral, buff-breasted, wilson's phalarope, wilson's snipe, yellowlegs, solitary sandpiper, scissor-tailed flycatcher etc.. The area along barker cypress looks good as does the flooded soccer fields. The soccer fields can be very good as the water goes down as other shorebirds use them as a beach. Currently the water is still rising. There should be good habitat for a good while and even longer if there is more rain. -- Joseph C.
