Richard,

As ESR meter, ANY ESR meter, is not more accurate and is not a substitute
for a capacitor meter. You need both. An ESR meter can quickly check a
cap in circuit, but doesn't guarantee the cap is good, just as a cap
measuring within tolerance on a cap checker doesn't necessarily mean it
is good. Both instruments should be used along with your knowledge of
the circuits involved. In fact, both could indicate a cap to be "good,"
but if it shows signs of leakage, it needs replaced. All test equipment
has its limitations. We learn them through experience.

I never used an ESR meter until I bought one about a year ago. I love
mine, but am not sure I would do as Phil. Probably have my Fluke in my
other arm. My wife has legs, too.

As to where to buy the Dick Smith, there was a post earlier today on
where to buy. I'll paste it below.

Dick Smith Electronics ESR and Low Ohms meter kit K7204 is available from

http://www.dse.co.nz/ for NZ$78 which is approximately US$50.

Hope this helps,
