Mike This is actually a Toshiba so try crossing to another model # , like M-650 , 750 , 770. Make sure that the load motor block is timed in correctly and that metal cam load arm that sits under the block assembly, and , drives cassette load assembly , is not damaged and it has not damaged the cam gear also.
