Gary, The following advice might sound as crazy as the concept of "mutual destruction deterrent" or "Military Intelligence". I have used this method for years, and it works. First, remove all possible power sources, such as standby batteries. In your case, discharge all large capacitors, this to insure against possible electrolyses. Take the whole board home with you and place it carefully in the dishwasher. Add the soap as you would with dishes. You might have to remove the top rack. The next step is critical! Let it sit in the warmest place you can find for two days. (This does not include the self cleaning oven.) If you have Relays or IF type cans, let it sit for a week. This will assure that all the moisture is out of the works. In the winter, I place the board in a Fruit Drier at 100 degrees. The only problem I have had with this method is when there is a large buildup of oxide underneath an LSI and the spray can not get to it. Good luck and happy troubleshooting. The set is dead because some mouses pee'd on the chassis (I mentioned this set a few months ago in case anyone remembers, but I only work on it when I'm caught up with customers items- it belongs to my buddy who is very patient). I installed the new eeprom and microprocessor kit before I got the Chipper Checker. Now with the Chipper Checker connected, I get error code 136, TVB (tone/ volume/ balance) which means U1503 is not communicating with the micrprocessor. Does this mean that U1503 or associated circuit is bad? I do have U1600 removed from the circuit (stereo decoder IC) so why doesn't Chipper Checker come up with error code 128 (no communication from U1600) ? How accurate is this Chipper Checker at determining faults? The basic problem with the set is that when remote power button is pressed, I get 3 chirps, then nothing. During these chirps, I get 120 V pulses B+ on the main 135V line, and I get a nice looking horizontal output waveform on the HOT collector. I have the flyback lead to the HV splitter disconnected. I removed U1600 because of corrosion on the pins. Replaced micro and eeprom because pins were corroded and thought that could be the problem with set not starting. I also have CRT boards unplugged from the tubes. Thanks for any help. -- Gary McCartney McCartney Electronics 7134 Fife Rd, RR 7 Guelph Ontario Canada N1H 6J4 Fax: (519)821-1530 email: number63 (at) inetsonic.com ------------------------------------------ To REMOVE your email address, click here: http://www.tech-assist.org/unsubb.html To CHANGE your email address, click here: http://www.tech-assist.org/change.html ------------------------------------------ ***NEW*** Tips Added Instantly!!!*** Submit Repair Tips here: http://www.tech-assist.org/secure/tip/ ------------------------------------------ To REMOVE your email address, click here: http://www.tech-assist.org/unsubb.html To CHANGE your email address, click here: http://www.tech-assist.org/change.html ------------------------------------------ ***NEW*** Tips Added Instantly!!!*** Submit Repair Tips here: http://www.tech-assist.org/secure/tip/
