When you disconnected the high voltage input from the splitter, you only
isolated from that point on! It did not indicate that the splitter itself
was defective. You may have a bad CRT, that's perhaps why replacing the
splitter did not solve the problem. You should have taken your
troubleshooting a little bit further and reconnected the high voltage input
to the splitter again, but this time removed the high voltage outputs to
each CRT on at a time to see if it stayed up when you disconnected the
potentially bad CRT. Why don't you give that a try?
