There are several stages of video/audio processing of the SD signal before
it's upconverted to a psuedo-HD signal (thus the HD inputs work ok).
I'd recommend first getting that TV to shop and downloading the manual from
the Hitachi website, also look at their service bulletins, but if you've
gotta do it in the customer's home, have scope, downloaded schematics, and a
couple hours to do it.
Question to Jeff and others about the HD DVD situation.....I know the DVDs
have the Component (Y - Pr - Pb outputs) outputs, some now have the DVI
outputs, but at this time I'm not sure if these units are only outputting a
480I/480P signal on these outputs......or if they're ACTUALLY outputting a
1080 signal....AND IF THEY ARE.....IS THERE A DVD DISC THAT IS RECORDED IN
1080I??????
(I'm soooo confused). I've been waiting to find a DVD player I can trust to
output 1080i (and SD on normal Vid outs) AND a DVD disc recorded in 1080i
for those HD convergence procedures....I've been watching the alignment DVD
companies on the Net, but they are just as vague as the Manufacturers are.
