Damon, You could have a problem in the DCU or some corrupt EEPROM data. Follow that convergence guide from the beginning and you should be OK, but you will likely need to clear the memory and start from scratch. I have not seen large variances in these chips, but have seen lots of bad ones from all of the suppliers. There is no difference in the ones from Hitachi. Overall, the ones from Toshiba seem to have been most reliable, but it likely has more to do with which batch they come from from Sanyo. I have been researching this on Hitachi's Website, and I have not seen any bulletins that describe this, ALTHOUGH PTV 01-04 "Convergence & Symmetry Adjustments" bulletin talks about R/B offsets and Horiz size/position settings. I wonder if Vertical Symmetry is also important (not mentioned) . I've had 3 PTVs with the same response, it still seemed to have 2-3 points on thetop/bottom line that was near the "point of distortion" .....it makes me think that something "outside"has been introducedinto the equation....that's why I'm wondering if theSTK392-110's may be a tighter quality from Hitachi...and if the R/B offsets (untouched) would also affect center? The only adjustments deemed necessary is on the extreme Left/Right and Top/Bottom...Center seems aligned on all 3 units. (Quick Note: Thanks Jerry, I do take your suggestions Quite Seriously) Yesterday I finished up another Hitachi with a set of Non-Hitachi amps, and the same thing happened....and it must be the Vertical section of either the Red or Blue only. I had the distortion/snaky line only on the bottom (another clue?) and only on the left side..and ONLY with the RED. That snaky line is another point of discussion, but I have balanced moving the line.... by counting how many presses of the alignment button for 3-4 points I have done.....but still the snaky-ness appears...I wonder if the distortion and snaky-ness (in the same exact area) are related.... I know there's a Guru here...is it Alvie? From Hitachi?? But I am more interested in Tech's experiences and their FIXES.....and things Alvie(?) has told them..... Damon (Arrrgh! I need to become a Hitachi Expert by Tomorrow!)
