While the remote is operating, check the b+ voltage, should be apx +5v. Then check the voltage after the remote quits. Really the best way is to use a scope and scope the data line from the IR receiver. You should have apx 5v p-p on the data line when you press the remote. If you get nothing and the b+ line is ok, then the IR receiver is defective. You can usually install another IR receiver from another tv or vcr. Just make sure the hook-up is the same, that is b+, data, ground.
