I have a house with three phase power. It was built as a Duke Power Co. demo. The only thing in the house using the three phase power is the heat pump. Three phase motors are self-starting and draw much less surge current. European power systems are different. I believe the individual light bulb sockets are fused because at 220 a bulb that burns out may arc and explode.
