Yes, i think wireless may be ok for links to loops etc over short distances
but the performance i'm really interested in is on a UTC system where a very
regular one second transmission from each OTU is required.

Hi Doug,
I've not used wireless comms for UTC personally but I did have a very
interesting meeting with Mike Collins from Traffic Signal Design &
Consultancy a couple of weeks ago - he demonstrated their wireless
communications system which appears to be extremely reliable and has a
much larger range than Smartlink.
He was very proud of the fact that TfL are using his product at a couple
of bridge sites where you can't lay ducting/cables for comms.
