A rather unpopular topic in Cambridge at the moment of advanced detection= cycle loops at Toucan crossings with nearside PDU's. Do any or have any = of you used advanced cycle detection loops on the approaches to Toucan cr= ossings. There are inherent problems with this. Ie. Cyclists expecting th= e lights to change and cycling straight across the crossing area and subs= equently being bulldozed by an approaching vehicle and also not noticing = the display on the PDU. The Cambridge cycling campaign banging is on about having them reinstated= (having converted a segregated crossing where cyclists are treated as ve= hicular traffic to a modern toucan). This crossing is also in a SCOOT reg= ion where we obviously have the prevent period. Does anybody have any other reasons why / why we should not have them or = have you installed them at a modern toucan?
