The much heralded DMRB will prohibit it, if/when it arrives.

Subject: [TCUG] Advance Cycle Stoplines

I am under increasing pressure from the cycling team to provide advanced =
cycle stoplines without feeder lanes, indeed there are several sites in =
Bristol where this has happened in the past.

I am currently a little unsure as to where this places us legally as my =
understanding is that ASL's are only approved with feeder lanes and to =
install them without may be a departure from standards thus in effect =
being non proscribed road markings.

I would like information as to what other authorities do in this case as I =
am sure we are not the only place this kind of conflict has taken place.

Also has any one approached DeFT about this issue with a view to special =
authorisation or not.

Another issue I have is whether any one has staggered stoplines for =
adjacent lanes, I have only known of 2 such layouts and wonder what the =
legal status of this layout is.=20

Needless to say when asked to put ASL's onto this type of layout I had =
grave concerns about the message we would be giving to the general public.

The last issue I have is whether any one has used =BD width ASL's as these =
have again been suggested by the cycle team where a full lane could be =
achieved.

I would welcome any comments that people have on these issues.

Thanks=20
