i believe all tax office/vehicle registrations locations do them now. before
in tarrant county only 1 office could inspect your plates and approve them
then you had to go to another office to register them and yet send in a
seperate payment to austin for YOM plates---wait--- then you could register
them like any other plate. now thats all changed and everything including
payment is done at local office. 1 note here. DPS USED to let you register
YOM plates even if the YOM plate number was already in use. I believe that
policy has changed. If YOM plate number is in use you cant put it on your
car. I know because i was pulled over by a cop in southlake because my
"PLATE" had a warrant on it or so says the cop. when cop confirmed i was not
the driver that the warrant was attached to via the plate he let me go. i
contacted the DPS the next day and they assured me that my YOM plate number
was in fact being used by TWO other registered cars in Texas. only solution
was to put on new issue plates. i chose to keep my YOM 67 plates and take
the chance of getting pulled over again. also the cop that pulled me over
knew B4 hand that i wasnt the perp cuz his computer shows the plate# and
make model of car that the warrant is for along with the name of the person
regisered to it. I was in a 67 bus. he was pulling me over for the fun of
it. I never had a cop be so nice to me for pulling me over. i guess he was
hoping for a sean penn moment out of that movie which title escapes me now.
but alas i was just on my way home from work at 11pm.........
