[tabi] Re: Fw: City of Tallahassee News Release - StarMetro Updates Website with New System Information

I hope so Robert (but don't think so) ... but I didn't think their own
system was needed if they supplied the info to Google transit, they could
just refer people to a link off of it. It has the advantage of helping you
find a schedule involving other carriers (such as Greyhound or Red Coach or
anyone else who may be involved). also, they would as part of this
arrangement, have to supplied the gps locations of all the stops, so anyone
purchasing an assistive GPS navigation system would also have a way of
finding stops.

Last I heard they were going to supply this info to individuals upon
request, but not to Google Transit, which is a real shame as I don't think
individuals will have an easy way of getting this into their GPS devices.
And, supplying this info to Google Transit would have helped all of Leon
County citizens.

I thought at one time that is what they were going to do. I tried to get on
the beta team but never heard anything. I called twice and never got a
return call. I think it was Erica that sent me the info. Maybe they will
do both.

I think it's a real shame that StarMetro chose to reinvent the wheel with
their own trip planner, rather than send their info to Google, which already
has an accessible trip planning system, and which also happens to interface
with the navigation systems for the blind.

Mr. Waterman, how about it? could yo also send the trip info to Google
Transit?

StarMetro Updates Website with New System Information

Today, customers can visit Talgov.com/StarMetro to view information on
StarMetro's new decentralized system, which takes effect on July 11. The
updated website features route maps and timetables for the new system.

"Until the launch of the new system, customers will also be able to access
our current route information," said Ron Garrison, executive director of
StarMetro. "Even though we are two months away from the launch of the new
system, we felt that it was necessary to begin publicizing the new route
maps and time tables."

In the near future, StarMetro will implement additional changes to help
improve the customer experience. Closer to the launch of the new system, two
new web applications - trip planning and online fare purchase - will also
launch. With the trip planning application, StarMetro customers will be able
to type in a beginning point, end point and arrival time; the application
will then relay to the customer a detailed travel itinerary using
StarMetro's new system. With the online fare purchase application, StarMetro
customers will be able to purchase a 31-day fare card using their personal
credit card via Talgov.com/StarMetro.
