That would really depend on the apps, and where they are bound. If they are CPU intensive you'll notice it. If they are memory intensive you won't, if they are I/O (disk) intensive then it depends on what type of I/O bus, SCSI will be much better then EIDE, but most OTS PCs come with EIDE just like the Sun Blades. If you are going to buy a PC get one with SCSI disks. Personally, I'm doing Java / Oracle development with Sun ONE Studio and at times the thing just sits and sucks up CPU. Also, one correction about the Blade 100 vs. 150. Someone mentioned that the100 hold 2 Gigs of memory and the 150 4 Gigs. But when you read the hardware manual you will see that the Blade 100 will hold 4 Gigs if the CPU is jumpered to run at 550 MHz or greater. I strapped mine to run at 650 MHz long ago so it should be able to take 1 Gig SIMMs. In truth the big difference between the two is the 256k cache in the 100 and the 512k in the 150. How much difference that makes probably depends on what you are doing. I'd like to see some good benchmarks comparing the two, particularly for Java. I guess I will look out for a Blade150. When I speak in terms of "bang for the buck", I really have no clue how they compare. If I buy a Blade150, will my java apps run "notably" slower than on a intel p4 or Apple g4 ? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Sent using Phorum software version 3.4.3a <http://phorum.org>[3] --- Links --- 1 mailto:zenarcade@xxxxxxx 2 http://www.gekkou.co.uk/forum/read.php?f=1&i=569&t=567 3 http://phorum.org
