you must always press C, to clear any potential marks, obviously there
was highlighting or it would not stop.

OK, this is the second time this has happened. I start recording something
and then go back to the begin inning and start over again. Unfortunately,
though I have not highlighted any part of the file, the second recording
stops recording at the end of where the first recording stopped and misses
the next hour of recording. I was not in a position to check to see if it
