Curtis, even though I didn't highlight any part of the recording, I think
you have to be right. Some how there was something that had to be
highlighted, or none of this would have happened. Good suggestion about
always pressing c before recording.

sorry Neil, I've never had any issues with a recording which suffered
because one file was of a particular length and the second therefore was
limited, only by having the end highlighted accidently in any way has it
ever happened for me.

Mary, I use wave view also and have never had that problem. The thing
is, if there were something else effecting my computer, I am not sure
why several times now the second recording I started over by moving to
the top of the file will record exactly the length of the first file.
I know that if this first file is highlighted, it will likely happen,
but nothing is highlighted when this happens. I am glad your problem
was solved by who knows what. And that's just the problem. If would be
nice if we knew how it was solved.

Thanks for writing.

Neal and list,

I had a similar thing happen for a couple years, but it stopped
happening early this year. It hasn't happened in the past couple months.
I don't know if this is due to software changes on my hard drive; or
maybe something interfered with SR as it was running. I definitely
wouldn't wish this problem on anyone.

I've noticed something annoying; this doesn't relate to Neal's
problem, but I'll mention it in case someone notices it. I use SR in wave
mode.
Sometimes while editing, I notice that the phrase I'm working with
suddenly repeats quickly and briefly, and the entire phrase isn't
spoken; in fact, there's much less of it. The solution is to go into
the View menu, go to zoom, and in the sub-menu, press enter on normal.
There's also a shortcut to switch to normal zoom, control plus f10.
For some reason zoom sometimes gets set to something else, which seems
to cause the brief phrases. I haven't a clue what triggers it.

Mary
