I would think that this could have been the problem however I am not sure I
just know I bought vanilla fragrant oil from aromatics and more and have had
no probs. I cant imagine vanilla essence would be meant to be used in soap

Would the vanilla essence seize the mixture? What sort of vanilla essence
did you use?

Hi Pauline,
I've used this calculator before and it hasn't let me down. Only one comment
about your formula, you need to weight your Caustic not use "cups". It can
throw you way off.

Cheers Rebecca

Pauline you really need to master a calculator as different oils require
different amounts of lye. You will run into trouble if you just use that
recipe and chop and change your oils around.

What we do is a form of science.

Do you know where this recipe came from out of interest?

My recipe is:
500gms palm oil, 250gms coconut oil, 250gms veg. oil, 5mls castor oil,
400mls filtered water, 2/3 cup caustic soda, vanilla essence and coffee
fragrant oil.
If you do muck up mix is it really worth reheating and trying again. Is
there anything I can do to get rid of the stickiness of the soap.

My third batch of soap - not good. When I mixed the oil with the lye it
instantly went solid before I could put it into moulds. I think I put too
much Palm oil in. Next day grated half of that batch and reheated it and
trickled in filtered water slowly. Took another 600mls but it looked like
and felt like it had a bad cold (snotty). As it cooled it turned white and
was manageable but now feels sticky. What went wrong?
