I have to respond to this one.  The idea that space is a "medium" 
through which energy flows was dispelled over a hundred years ago by 
the results of the Michelson Morley experiment.  If space were a 
medium for EM propagation it would constitute a frame of reference 
for an absolute velocity measurement.

Although the relative vacuum of outer space is not empty due to 
quantum effects, it does not constitute a "medium" or a conductor of energy.
