Leonard- Originally we had the list 'open' with respect to posting binary attachments to list messages. At some point in time (probably about 8 years ago) someone posted a 8 MByte document to the list. At that time we had something approaching 2K users (today it is closer to 4K). The bandwidth consumed by the sending of the 8M attachment to over 2K users just about brought the little Linux server to it's knees creating mass discontent from the sysops who maintain the server. About the same time the e-mail virus issue was warming up. A decision was made to re-configure the system s/w to not allow attachments on si-list messages. While I agree it can be a bit inconvenient at times we really haven't had any issues related to virus spreading or the use of mega-quantities of bandwidth either intentionally or unintentionally. I suppose by limiting the size of attachments the effect of broadcasting 4000 attachment could be limited somewhat, but the virus issue would still be there. There currently isn't an automatic way for users to upload files to the si-list web site, however upon request I can place them there to support specific conversation topics. The bottom line is that unless there really is a compelling reason to change the list configuration with regards to attachments I'd really prefer not to. I'm willing to listen to arguments to the contrary though. I have worked for both Xilinx and I'm working for Altera right now. I have been following the list for around 6 years now and almost never post. My area is high speed communications and Signal Integrity channel design. I just started with Power integrity not too long ago.=20 Ray I believe that you are the moderator of the list or at least one of them. My question is: Is there anyway to change the list from Text only to include HTML or graphic? There could be a limit on email size or a limit on size to the uplink area. There are several times when I would like to post questions or answer them and it would help to include a snap shot or jpg of the schematic or waveform, but just can't. I suppose I could upload it to Yahoo photos have provide a link. If not as an attachment then is there anyway to provide an uplink area that could be posted to the list as well? This has been common practice for a while now with high bandwidth available that the web tools or web applications that are available today.=20 I have included the others for feedback on the topic since they are heavy users of the list.=20 ------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from si-list: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field or to administer your membership from a web page, go to: //www.freelists.org/webpage/si-list For help: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'help' in the Subject field List FAQ wiki page is located at: http://si-list.org/wiki/wiki.pl?Si-List_FAQ List technical documents are available at: http://www.si-list.org List archives are viewable at: //www.freelists.org/archives/si-list or at our remote archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/si-list/messages Old (prior to June 6, 2001) list archives are viewable at: http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu
