Leo you can use Matlab for a multitude of things in SI, lately I've seen many people using it specifically for High-Speed Linear interconnect simulations, most commonly derived from S-parameters/impulse responses etc. Of course it's usage is not limited for that and this tool has been extensively used in the past for all kind of signal processing and RF application. Some other possible usages 'maybe' more directly related to SI are: - PLL modeling, jitter in general - CDR modeling, (any kind of algorithm) - Signal analysis (spectral analysis), time/frequency domain - Statistical analysis. BER, Bathtub Curves, Jitter decomposition etc. - Filters, any type of fitting or mathematical model That's the nice thing about a general purpose programming language, Matlab or anything else for that matter (PERL, C) , they are open and flexible and the kind of things and usages, are entirely up to you. Of course the drawback, is that creating the algorithms, for the most part it's also entirely up to you. In Matlab, there are several toolboxes that have already been created that may help you in some cases to get started, just to mention some you may find this useful: - Filter toolbox - RF toolbox - Statistical toolbox - System Identification toolbox These libraries/toolboxes are not only limited to Matlab, other programming languages such as PERL and C, also have specialized/math libraries.
