Regarding the inductance of the thermal vias, a couple points: * You should be able to estimate the contribution to the via inductance of the thermal ties by first determining the unrelieved spreading inductance for your stackup and then scaling that value by the fraction of the copper to open space in your vias thermal ties. You could count rectilinear squares of copper for a more precise answer. * In most cases thermal vias are used to aid in the solderability of leaded components connected to a plane. I would think the inductance of the leaded components would just about bury the additional inductance contributed by the thermally escaped vias in the noise. Try doing a search on the list archives using "thermal vias" for further relevant discussion from the past. -Ray ------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from si-list: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field or to administer your membership from a web page, go to: //www.freelists.org/webpage/si-list For help: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'help' in the Subject field List FAQ wiki page is located at: http://si-list.org/wiki/wiki.pl?Si-List_FAQ List technical documents are available at: http://www.si-list.org List archives are viewable at: //www.freelists.org/archives/si-list or at our remote archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/si-list/messages Old (prior to June 6, 2001) list archives are viewable at: http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu
