Cheri,
Yes there are things you can give your dog so that it won't limp, however the
dog will use his leg as if there was no problem. He will be able to fly around
the ring several times, but are those entry fees which may total $60 really
worth taking the risk of possible permanent injury to your dog. And why would
you want to "mask" the feeling of pain so that you can show your dog?
Over the 30 years that I have been showing dogs, I have had dogs that came up
with pano after closing dates. They were pulled! There is a reason the AKC will
not allow a lame dog to be shown, it's the dog.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] pano & showing

Hi all,
I have a young male (1 1/2 yrs old) who seems to have developd Pano in his
front leg-of course this was 3 days after entries closed on 2 shows he is now
entered in for this coming weekend. My question is--what can I give him to
ease the pain so he dosent limp? I have some tramadol left from my Jenna's
operation last fall--that is an antiinflamitory, non-steroidal pain med-that is
widely used for arthritis in dogs-I could use that-or is there something
else--without spending lots of $ at the vet?
Thanks,
Cheri
