Well Kathy, I can't say anything better than this. I share your thinking. Ileana You mentioned "maybe the dog was startled". Pray tell, how a dog, with part of it being of a breed that can find earthquake victims under 35 feet of concrete and rubble CAN BE STARTLED BY A CHILD STANDING NEXT TO IT???????? On Mother's Day my brother, his 18 month old son, Nicholas, and one of my boys were rough-housing on my parent's back lawn. They baby was crawling over the dog who had rolled over for a belly rub and with my brother right there, somehow slipped and stepped on the dog's testicles. You could hear the "wwwwooooofff" as the poor dog exhaled, like all of the air had been let out of him (poor boy!). Did he snarl, bite, growl?????...OF COURSE NOT! You can't "train" that.
