Coming from a rescue/foster point of view I find these owners refreshing. They
did not just place a "Free Dog" ad. They did not just tie them up at the gate
to a shelter. They have explained quite thouroughly about both dogs and have
gone to the extent of wanting to know should it not work out at the new home.
And wanting to help if it doesn't.

If at all possible rescues up here try and help the owners find new digs that
are okay with dogs. Messages are posted on rescue boards about the family
wanting to keep the dogs and need help. We ask fosterers' to foster them until
they find the new home. Maybe the person who found the ad could go out of their
way to assist them with this? At the very least suggest to them the above?

Why on earth the poster below would want to publicize the email addy and
"attack" them is beyond my scope of reasoning. S**t happens. Breeders quite
frequently "downsize" and dump whole or part of their kennels and don't go to
the nth degree what these people are doing. These people and their dogs could
use a paw up, not an attack.

I feel sorry for them and agree they shouldn't just be giving them away. Why
they are moving to Castle Rock is an unknown issue, but this town now bans
Pit Bulls and any breed or mix that resembles them. That's the most likely
reason as to why they can't keep the dogs. Most animal control couldn't tell an
American Bulldog from a Boxer from a Pit Bull, unfortunately.
Whatever the outcome, I hope it's one that is beneficial for the dogs.

yes you absolutely, positively did say and do the right thing. My only regret
is you didn't include their email address so the entire list could "attack".
Now that I think about it, with their kids the age they are-keep the dogs,
get rid of a couple of kids.

I'm really sorry, and I don't mean to add to your pain, but "moving" is an
unacceptable reason for abandoning your dogs. I've moved many, many times in
my life, and my dogs [German shepherds] moved with me. Would you re-home
your children? Surely, renting in a new city is just as difficult with small
children as it is with dogs.

I applaud you for your honest evaluation of your dogs, but I would also tell
you that "free" dogs are often abused. People don't value "free."

Please rethink your decision. You CAN figure out a way to keep your dogs
with you. They've given you unconditional love, loyalty, affection -- how
can you reward them with this? And I promise you, your partner's pain will
NOT go away. She will always wonder and will always feel guilty.

If I have misunderstood your situation, then I would urge you to withdraw
your dogs from Freecycle and find reputable breed rescues for each of your
dogs. Google the breed plus "rescue" and "Denver."

Respectfully,

Fran
