There may have been some that worked, but I personally know of many that did
not, including our own venture into the unknown. And that is the major
problem. I like to have a 5-7 generation health history and pedigree in
front of me and I just can't do that with the lack of information given with
most imports. I have the resources to find out about the American
Bred/Canadian Bred gene pool, even if the owner will not give me a strait
answer, I will find out. But the information from across the pond sees to be
better controlled and less available, probably just because of the lack of
extensive relationships. But when I ask what are the problems in your line,
I want to know what they are, not a denial that any exists. We all die of
something and so do our dogs.
There also exists the issue of temperament. I envision two lines, not
parallel at all, but divergent, like a fork in the road, one going at an
angle from the other. That is my way of thinking about the American Bred
lines and the import lines. We have not bred in parallel, but for different
things and the end result is, to some degree, two different dogs from the
same gene pool. To attempt to blend those traits back into a balance point
might just take as long to do as it has taken to make those two different
dogs. Getting a mean average may well mean that the outcome fits into
neither camp and may achieve nothing in my lifetime.
Anyway, thatâ??s part of my current theory and I sticking to it until I change
my mind which may happen sometime between this afternoon and the 12th of
never.

Does anyone know why GSD breeders stopped the German-American crosses they
did
years ago? Â I know even today a few breeders still do use this formula but
it still seems to make sense that it worked years ago why not today. Â I know
American judges do look for  different conformation and movement than they
did years ago but I am looking at it for health and temperament reasons.
Not that the German GSD's are healthier just opens up not bottlenecking when
breeding the American GSD's.
