Back when I started showing in UKC, yes, the majority of the dogs, of all
breeds, were not of good quality. Mostly, dogs were shown in UKC who couldn't
show in AKC or finish an AKC CH title.
However, that has all changed. The majority of people showing in UKC today,
also show the same dogs in AKC. I am talking about top dogs in their breed!
But, their owner is showing them in UKC, not the handler. That is why it is so
much fun for the owner and dog.

Yes, I was told UKC is more of a performance type registry where dogs are
xpected to work and working conformation is rewarded. But, I saw about 75% of
he people I showed with at UKC at the AKC Thanksgiving cluster show (not german
hepherd people though)! Plus, at UKC a lot of those other breeds are Champions
n both AKC and UKC. We had several finished AKC CH at the UKC Shows (not GSDs).
n fact, the #1 Saint Bernard that has won his Westminster class a bunch of
imes was showing UKC and AKC. Plus, the Sussex or maybe the Field Spaniel (I
lways get them confused) finished at the AKC show and I think is a UKC Grand
H. So, other breeds seem to have no problem going back and forth between
venues.
The atmosphere is more laid back at UKC and everyone is nice. Plus, no
rofessional handlers are allowed and no grooming products on dogs or brushes in
he ring.
But, AKC looks fun too and they have the fancy carpet things for gaiting! *grin*
