No, I'm not kidding It changes everything. Actually after running a few
numbers , I'd go one step further...The National should be in New Jersey.
Look at the following:
Alright, lets rank those same states in exhibitors per 100 square miles.
New Jersey 8.6 exhibitors per 100 square miles
Connecticut 7
Massachusetts 5
Maryland 3
Ohio 2.5
Wisconsin 2.3
Pennsylvania 2.25
Florida 2.2
New York 2.16
Illinois 2.1
Michigan 1.9
Georgia 1.7
California 1.46
Washington 1.43
Minnesota 1.39

North Carolina 1.1

In order to minimize travel for the greatest amount of exhibitors the
National should be in the North East. These numbers of exhibitors would be
even greater if the National were ever in the Northeast again. I'm certain
there is a bimp in teh number of exhibitors from a state when the National is
held locally. Keep in mind, it has not been in the North East in over 15 years
and yet this is where the density of exhibitors and membership is by far the
highest. I took Joan's figures and divided them by the number of square miles
each state has. Canada's figures are insignificant, unless you limit Canada to
the three or four most populous provinces.
This also explains why West Coast Nationals have been and continue to be a
losing proposition. It also does not bode well for a Texas National.
However, inspite of the statistics, I believe the National should be rotated
but not on a East-Central-West-Central. I find doing otherwise unfair (as did
our founding fathers!) Putting it in the Central region two out of four times
actually maximizes the travel inconvenience for the most exhibitors and
membership. Also we should consider changing it to a North Central location
and a North East location. Perhaps it should be South East--Northern
Midwest--Southern West Coast- North East-Southern Central-North West, making
it twice in the east, twice in the west and twice in the West in six years,
varying North South every other year as well. That way if a person lives in
the North west they could coconceivablyttend a local National every 6 years
and another two years attend one within a 24 hour drive, giving that exhibitor
the possibility of attending three out of six by driving.
Amazing what you find out when you really look at the numbers.
