The use of Pyro type developers as an after treatment may simply produce an overall stain rather then an imagewise stain. The stain is produced by reaction products of development. Since no development takes place in fixed film any stain will be an overall one which will lower the contrast of the stain image. Negatives treated in staining developers should have _no_ stain in the highlights.Richard Knoppow wrote:Rodinal is good for Tri-X. I prefer a staining developer like PMK, DiXactol, Exactol or Precysol. PMK and DiXactol require a bit more work since the developer is saved and used to strengthen the staining afterfixing. Exactol and Precysol have no such requirements. -- -- *Jeff Greene* Technology and Information Services, Inc. 610-745-4212
