Thank you both Carlos and Lance for putting my mind at ease.
I suppose a CLA would clear up the other issues, and maybe Krikor has an extra screw for the back.

Believe it or not, this camera has it's original battery in it, and it still works. The previous owner did not even think it had a battery, and never replaced it. There was some discussion previously about whether the battery was "on" all the time. Except when it's the sensor is kept in the dark? Any thoughts?

It's normal that the shutter release be held down for the duration of the slower shutter speeds.

The Rollei 35 S- Xenar is identical regarding the
Rollei 35 Tessar except for the lens name and then it
could be compared with a Rollei 35 Tessar (like mine).

1)It does not happen with my Rollei 35, if the lens is
retracted it remains retracted for any camera
position,if the lens is advanced without to lock it in
the position to use the camera it remains advanced for
any camera position. It's normal you only can retract
the lens if the shutter is cocked,Heinz Waaske wished
the camera was ready to shoot after to advance and to
lock the lens.

2) I'm sending my camera for a shutter CLA, only 1/250
and 1/500 are working right. It sounds like your
camera shutter also needs a CLA.

3)The visible screws in the camera top cover are to
help the cover to stay in its place, I think there is
no probem if some of these screws lack. The hole under
the extreme of the film advance lever has like a
little bent metal bar in my camera, in fact it works
like stop for the lever to avoid it beats the top
cover wall, I don't think it could be an important
part.

All the best
Carlos
