I am fascinated by the rapid rise of Italian photo company Ferrania. They've been here since at least the early 60s, making printing paper I used as a 15 year old, but now they make the house-brand 35mm lotsa drugstores (excuse me, pharmacies, gotta be PC) sell as their own. Cheap, by the case, too. I pay ~ 65 cents a 24 exp roll...What about 6x6cm? I dunno.... I've heard Russians like the format...What film do they shoot? Anyone want to import it?
I don't remember the Ferrania history in detail but think its a very old company. I have no idea of the quality of their products or what names they might be found under. I think there is still a large enough market for chemical photography products to support several companies. Even though it has shrunk considerably it was such a tremendous market to begin with that there what remains is still very large. Perhaps this is just wishful thinking but I rather think the move to digital has about spent itself.
