What is compatibility mode, and is this normally already turned on?

Subject: [real-eyes] Fw: xm online player information

Wanted to pass the following on to the list. It's not much help, but
better than nothing I guess.

Hello everyone,
I just came across the following information regarding using the Online
XM
radio player. Hope this helps:
We have received your email with your concerns for the blind and
visually
impaired customers being able to access and utilize the online player.
We
are aware of this issue and are working on a more permanent fix to make
using the online player user friendly for the blind and visually
impaired
customers. We are sending documentation on the recommended steps to
follow
for the current work around on this issue until a more permanent fix can
be
put in place. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconveniences
and
frustrations this may have caused.

Below are our interim recommendations for the visually impaired to use
the
Internet Radio player until a more permanent fix can be put in place.
These
recommendations are based upon testing using JAWS 12 software program.

Overall IE7 works MUCH better than IE8, we suggest that the customer
turn on
the "Compatibility Mode" option (in Tools drop down) if using IE8.

JAWS does read flash elements, just not the best when using IE8 (again,
turning on compatibility mode will fix this).

Recommended Steps:

1. Click "Listen Online", wait for page to fully load
2. There may be a Security Warning dialog box, click spacebar for yes
3. Tab once, JAWS will say "Tab, Edit - Type and text", this will place
them
in the Username Box
4. Enter username, tab again to get to Password Box
5. JAWS will say "Password edit - Type and text", enter Password, hit
Enter
6. Player will load. **If username / password is incorrect, the overlay
for
"Wrong UserName or Password!" DOES NOT get read aloud. Follow next step.
7. Tabbing ONCE will take user to the "Help & Support" link, it will say

"Help & Support", if this is not read aloud after tabbing, refer to step
#6,
there is probably a username/password issue. Best bet is to Alt+F4 and
try
again.
8. If "Help & Support" is heard, hit the tab key ONLY ONCE MORE. Should
say
"Eleven edit "may say channel number", Type and text.", from here you
can
type in a channel number. HIT ENTER
9. Player will play.
10. To change channel numbers, it is a little difficult. You cannot
simply
hit the backspace. They will tab once again and be taken to "Unlabeled
14
button", press the up arrow key 6 times to cycle back to be able to edit
the
channel number.

Other notables as they tab through:
. Unlabeled 14 button is "More Info" icon - does work if you hit Enter,
pressing the down arrow key will get them to this information.
. Unlabeled 16 button is "Buy" icon - DOES NOT work if you hit Enter
. 20 graphic 20 is "Share" icon - DOES NOT work if you hit Enter
. 22 graphic 22 is "Add to Favorites" icon - DOES NOT work if you hit
Enter
