I got it from the App Store for my iPads and iPhone. I'm not sure how the Mac
will work since I haven't used one.

Did she install the HP Eprint app? That may let the iPad connect to the

Almost certainly a Windows only printer. They require the OS to do much of the
processing that once was done on-board the printer itself. Off loading that
processing to the computer is one of the big reasons printers are so cheap and
throw-away items any more.
