I can't help at all with speak up and have no familiarity with any of
Orca's non-speech features, but if you're using one of the
Debian/Raspberian based images posted here on the mailing list or on
the Raspberry Vi website, your Pi should already be booting into
console mode by default. Can't speak for the Ubuntu-based images
though.
Though, in regards to speakup, what command do I need to issue or
config file do I need to edit to switch it to laptop mode? It's laptop
navigation controls still sound clunky compared to what I'm used to
with SBL, but still a major improvement over needing the numpad.
