Hello All,
I have been using the rack tables software for almost a year now to manage a data center and I am looking to extend the software features in a couple ways. I have read the archive and have not found the exact answers I am looking for. I read a lot of previous posts which talk about changes people may have made but i do not see any of their code added to any of the development branches or any specific code changes being posted to the list. If i am incorrect please feel free to correct me and point me in the right direction.

The first feature I am looking to add is the ability to handle patch panels and be able to see through to the other end of it. Right now our users select an available switch port on our switches and we cable up between their rack location and the patch panel and switch ports. It would be great if they could select a patch panel port located in their rack and then select the end port on a switch. Then my job would only be to put the cables where they selected. I know about mounting a patch panel in 2 racks, and that gets me 1/2 way there. What it doesn't let them do is have 2 devices , one server and one switch port, connect to that same patch panel port. It also doesn't allow them to see the "end port".

The second feature is a reporting one.In each of our racks we have two or four PDU's. For each of our server objects we have 2 custom fields one for BTU and one for Watts. I would like some way to build reports based on PDU electrical usage. So if we have 5 devices each pulling 500 watts from PDU-A and two devices pulling 700 watts from PDU-B i am looking for some way to create or view a report which says the amount of theoretical wattage being used on each pdu compared to the input wattage, then per rack, and then in the whole data center. I have the pdu's setup with 8 AC-OUT ports and 1 AC-IN Port but no way of combining connected devices onto the same pdu via the mysql database.

The third feature I am looking for is some thoughts on VMWARE and Rack tables. Obvious virtual infrastructure is something which might be out of the purpose of a software design for physical reporting. I understand that. What i am looking for is some suggestions on how other members might be doing this.
