This might be slightly off topic:
Minutes after I sent my last post I checked the Schlumpf homepage

Ah, finally ... the Burrows secret. But why? I mean what is he gaining from sitting further back and making the bike longer?
The red bike with the direct drive is das Langschiff von Stefan Daniel, right? I really hope that this hub will get past the one-gear level. Imagine ... in the future we could have bikes without heavy, greasy chains.
If I understand the information on Stefans website ...

... correctly this hub has a gear ratio of 1:3 and a multi geared version is under development.
You could make very compact bikes and foldables with these hubs. Hey, I would even consider mounting a multi geared hub on my unicycle! But judging from videos showing people riding unicycles with freewheel hubs has convinced me this makes a VERY unstable ride. So I would probably add a tiny front wheel for support.

Here are pictures of the Direct Drive hub and of Mike Burrows construction, which is a RWD bike.
