This was the
sort of transmitter where you could open a door and walk
around inside it.

April 7, 2006, from Lloyd Erlick,

Unlike my old Panda Cub!

Are there still amateur radio operators?

In Canada, the whole thing has been reduced to a self-maintaining database.
I'm VE3PIX because I entered it into the database and no one else had it.
Is anyone learning Morse Code these days?

regards,
--le

Amateur radio is alive and well in the US but has changed a lot since I was active. Morse is no longer a requirement, although I think you still need it for the Extra-Class license. Most of the hams I know work VHF.
Like so many other things the glamour has largly been removed from ham radio.
