It can't be very large. There are a lot of old process lenses around which will cover this format. A lens like an Apochromatic Artar will just about cover a circle equal to its focal length at infinity focus although this is larger than its specs indicate. While most process lenses were of shorter focal length they were available in FLs up to about 1 meter. The most common focal length was 19", nearly 500mm. The required image circle for a 20x24 film is around 800mm. If a wide angle lens was desired a Dagor would do it. Dagors were available in some focal lengths longer than 12" as f/7.7 lenses. Without looking at my old catalogues I can't be sure of the longest FL but it was certainly at least 15". At f/45 a 17" Dagor would just cover the format. "Normal" FL for 20x24 is 31" or 787mm. Again, process lenses wee made in this sort of FL. I can not imagine Schneider being able to build these lenses in very small numbers for less than perhaps $5000 US or more each. While the performance would probably be better than the old lenses of similar focal length I wonder if it would really be significant for the intended formats. --- Richard Knoppow Los Angeles, CA, USA dickburk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ============================================================================================================= To unsubscribe from this list, go to www.freelists.org and logon to your account (the same e-mail address and password you set-up when you subscribed,) and unsubscribe from there.
