Well with the subject of free equipment I picked up some today as well.  As usual it generates as many questions as answers.  The enlarger is an older Minolta Color Enlarger Mod III.  Its a bit unusual in that it comes with a color head and appears to be a diffusion type of enlarger, but there are also what appear to be condensers that are with the unit.  Yet there are no manuals.  Now it looks like this unit might have been able to be switched from condenser to diffusion modes, but for the life of me I can't see how.  Looks like it would work fine as it is, but I am curious as to how it would work.

Now it came with a heat absorbing glass, and I am guessing that it just sits above the lens carrier.  I have always used only cold head enlargers in the past.  Now with a diffusion type of enlargers the glass probably isn't going to add a great deal to spotting problems.

Now with the enlarger I picked up two lenses and had one of my own.  Id be curious to the groups general opinion of which of the 3 lenses is of the highest quality.  First what was on it was a Minolta CE Rokkor-X F2.8-22 50mm .  There was also El Nikkor 50mm F2.8-16 in a sealed case.  I had a Schneider-Kreuznach Componon S 50mm 2.8-16.  Now that lens I would have to make a lens board for it, but that shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Id appreciate any thoughts, inputs and opinions.

All this talk of free equipement, reminds me that last fall, a friend
mine gave me her deceased father's Durst M600 which she had been storing
for 10 years
in the eventuality that she would get into photography but she is too
involved with etching and fabric, so I was the beneficiary. Two years
ago, the local lab where I do my slides, gave me their old Elwood 5x7
enlarger with an impeccable Schneider Componon 210/5.6 lens on it. Now
I'm waiting for that Minox and Focomat enlargers to fall into my lap ;)

I have an APO-Nikkor 210/9.0 process lens that I use on my 5x7. Since
it is a process lens, would it also be a good enlarging lens? I'm
toying with the idea and wanted to see if anybody had some thoughts on
the matter, question of broadning my ideas about the lens. Thanks.

Cheers,
Bogdan
