I'm lucky with my water and don't experience any problem with not using
the EDTA and citric acid. Calcium sulfite seems to take awhile before
it forms and settles out. I have little room for storage and don't save
the sulfite/bisulfite solution.

Necessity of EDTA and citrate comes from the kind of water and fixer
used, as Richard cited Henn et al, and it is independent of whether you
use it one shot or not.
