For my standby films (Acros, Neopan 400 and Plus-X), I have a roll of 35mm or 120 with entire roll exposed with standard step tablet or borin g backyard scene. (Of course, I live in the city and I don't have backyard. It's neighbor's houses.) I just cut some 10cm portion and dip it in prepared solution in complete darkness, or sometimes use a small tank. It's easy enough and give you more accurate information than room light fog test.
I have enough knowledge accumulated so that I can make good guess about initial processing time based on developing agents, concentration and the pH, but at the end, this strip test in small tank is a very good way to confirm the time before applying to the real negatives.
I have a backyard too. So this should work. ;-)
Thanks Ryuji. Very helpful.
