Here is an instruction how I made my laptop to fully operational PSKmail
station with Navigation software.

Laptop : Dell D531 -  $260 from Dell - AMDTurion X2, 2Gb RAM, 120 GbHD

1/ Download Ubuntu 11.10 - Desktop-i386.iso, burn iso

2/ Install it on the machine
3/ I had to use Ubuntu 2D at start up, nothing else worked - there is some
problem with the driver for graphic card for this particular laptop.
4/ Install Gnome-shell ( Optional I did not like Destiny, so Gnome was my
choice)
5/ Install Fldigi
6/ Add hamlib (info from Client manual)
7/ Install Java 7.0
8/ UninstallBrltty (you will not be able to use USB ports with it)
9/ Set up Fldigi
10/ Download and install jPSKmail 1.4 beta7
11/ Download and  replace javapskmail.jar beta 8 - do not forget to do
"sudochmod +x javapskmail.jar"

12/ Install gpsd (reads gps and make it available for all software - PSKmail
and openCPN)
13/ Install xgps ( not needed but help full for troubleshooting gpsd)
14/ Install openCPN ( navigation software)
15/ Install JVX 2.6 ( software to receive weather fax)
16/ Install JNX 1.4 ( software to receive Navtex)
17/ Download zyGrib  ( reads GRIB files - weather)

18/ I had some problem with gpsd that did not started the way it should so
ended up creating  some program  in Perl that is executed at start up and does
what is needed. So anybody who will have some problems with gpsd. please let me
know.

Here we go, working laptop with PSKmail, navigational software, weather fax and
navtex.
Works like a charm end all is free !!! not bad.

I will add detailed description how to do all of that for people who are not
too fluent with Linux OS .

I hope it helps
