You need one of the latest servers, I would recommend version 0.5.4
When you have started fldigi from the terminal, and start the server  from 
another, 
the fldigi terminal should say:
"Starting pskmail server transport layer"
That means the connection has been made.

The .cbh programs are now deprecated and have been replaced by paq8l, paq864 
and unpaq864.
You need those to send and decode compressed info.

I can only say that here on both SM0RWO, PI4TUE and IS0GRB-3 this works as it 
should...
It has definitely nothing to do with puppy or UBUNTU. Are you using gmail for 
POP now?

(debugging a small glitch in the client which only happens when you are 
only 1.6 minutes from the meridian, and I am 1.5 minutes away from the 
meridian... :)

BTW, skype does not work here most of the time because of limited wifi 
bandwidth,
but you can try...
