Hi Rick,
I clicked Next several times. I let it pick the defaults because I don't know
any better at this point.

Did you have to keep clicking on a next button or what do you remember about
walking the process? did it ask you any questions about installing Sql Server
Features?

Hi Rick,
From what I remember, it just picked a whole bunch of stuff and I just let it
do its thing.

Did that version make you walk through a bunch of Windows called the
Installation Center? It would have asked about things like Default Instances,
instance name, Security settings and user authorization. If that is a way to
install that Sql Server 2008 puppy without going through all that it is s super
find since the install process when Sql Server 2008 is installed as a
stand-alone product.
Let me know how it worked. There are prerequisit files that need to be
installed with Sql Server 2008 as well and I wonder if they were install
automatically if you did not manually have to install them.

Hi Rick,
When I went out to the link you sent me and got Visual C#, there was an option
to get one that came with SQL Server Express. Now I just have to find out how
to register the thing. It installed fine as far as I can tell.

Hi:there are at least 3 folks who sound like they are trying to get Sql Server
Express up and running. Perhaps I can help but where are you along the process?
Have any of you already downloaded and installed the product and how long ago?
If you have not installed it yet there are a couple of ways. The standard way,
download, install and register.
I saw something on the Download page for Sql Server Express 2008 R2 that said
Register Before Installing which might be more screen reader friendly. Also,
are you aware of the multi-window installation process and the various
parameters you will need to fillout? The Sql Server Installation Center is
confusing and, at least with Windoweyes, really a pain to navigate.
