Microsoft Virtual PC got as far as the starting screen for ubuntu and then just kind of stopped. However I did find that with the live cd feature it has, you can just burn ubuntu to a cd, reboot the computer press enter after waiting for a little while, After a few minutes I heard the ubuntu music and a couple minutes later was loaded on the gnome desktop. Once I was on the knome desktop, I pressed alt f2 to bring up the run box, typed in "orca" then pressed enter. Orca began to speak with E Speak as its tts engine. Orca will start you out at a configuration menu to choose the language etc. The problem I had was when it asked me to log out and I did that then logged back in Orca would not speak much of anything. In fact it wouldn't even speak its own preferences screen. Any ideas on what went wrong?

Just tested Virtual PC on my machine with Jaws and the command prompt did come up once I set everything up but alas, Jaws did not want to read the virtual machines window. The setup process for it is very accessible though. I would assume that a person could once everything is created and running install Linux to it and run it from there. Would be curious to know whether Mac OS could be run on it, since it claims to run x86 operating systems, and the later versions of Mac OS do run on Intel processors. Ok, but VMWare also cannot allow Jaws to access the virtual machines if it is installed only on the host machine.

I haven't tried MS Virtual PC yet, so I don't know if it is better or worse than VMWare. Maybe somebody who tried it can compare it with VMWare.

the systems can be installed on it but the virtual machines screens
are being drawn directly so no screen readers installed on the hiost
machine can read screens from the virtual machines. Other than this
it's a question of preferenses. As most part of things there're
several sites comparing the virtualiuzation technologies, each one
claiming one of them is better than other. I've choosen vmware
although others can choose different solutions.

Hi,

Does anyone if Microsoft Virtual PC is accessible to Jaws?

I mean, I know that the main program is accessible, but I don't know if
after creating the Virtual machines they are accessible for the blind.

This program is something like VMWare.

The program is absolutely free and it can be downloaded from Microsoft's
site.

You can find it by searching for its name with Google.

It could even be a better option for us than VMware, and I heard that other
systems like Linux can be installed on it.
