I don't know about all languages, but if your using a dotNet language in an MS IDE or a few others ways, there is an accessibility property that can be set for the objects on the screen.

haven't done much but upgrade vb6 projects in .net as of yet so can't tell you "how to get there from here" but due to discussions I read I know its doable.

you could check with Jamal Mazrui's site:
www.nonvisualdevelopment.org

and see what they can tell you, I'm fairly sure I herd Jamal in on that discussion.

The long answer is....it depends. Are you the application author? If
so, then the answer is yes with varying amounts of effort depending on
the type of application in question and the way in which the icon is
represented.

Hi,

Just wondering if there is a way to associate text with an icon in a
windows app similar to the way you would use an alt tag for an image on a
web page? I know you can label graphics using JAWS, but that is not what I am asking. I guess what I am asking is is there some kind of text property that can be added to a graphic that JAWS can detect and speak automatically without using JAWS itself to label the graphic? I don't need to know how to
do it, I just want to know if it is possible.

Thanks,

Fred
