Very glad to know it was useful. Dorian's a good guy, and he's worked pretty
hard on that tool.

I haven't used the latest version, or actually, maybe I have, since that was
the version I spent several hours on the phone with Dorian on going through
various user studies.

Take care,
Sina

Sina,
Have downloaded and installed deep view and find it quite nice. One thing I
am finding useful is that the new version of Graphviz can export to GXL
format; so, I can take a diagram in deep View, export it to Graphviz format
( an option of Deep View), and then run the dot2gxl Graphviz utility to
create an XML formatted representation of the diagram. The GXL document is
good at giving one a since of the shapes and colors and arrow
characteristics of the various parts of the diagram.

I've already sent an e-mail to Dorian providing feedback and expressing my
initial impressions of the tool.

Sina,
Thanks. Would you happen to have a link for Deep View?

Subject: Accessible UML drawing tools

All,
I know this question has been asked from time to time on this list but I'm
hoping for any recent updates that anyone is aware of. This week, I started
as tech lead for a new development project which will require considerable
documentation and reviews. I am hoping to find a tool which will allow me to
convey ideas and design structures in the form of diagrams such as UML.

I'd like a tool which will accept some form of text input or XML input and
produce various diagrams. I have the latest copy of AT&T Graphviz (version
2.18) and it is very powerful but Graphviz doesn't come with any templates
specifically aimed at producing UML style diagrams. It can likely be done
but if there is something else already out there which is accessible, that
would even be better.

Thoughts???
