You said the shortcut has a name on it... do you mean the shortcut is called something? Or do you mean clicking on the shortcut brings you to a login screen, where you are then connected? If the latter, then you have a PPPoE connection, and you will need software for that. I think Winpoet, if that's not what you already use. Its really an iffy thing. Most of the time, with DSL and/or cable, after a reinstall, you just plug in the ethernet to the modem and you're well on your way, connection automatically set up. But, if your DSL company uses PPPoE, that means you need to sign in first. And, you need a program to do it. If your company gave you a setup CD, that's probably what you would need for the PPPoE connection. Otherwise, check your ISP's website. ..::[ Sir Troth ]::.. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ICQ: 1717439 AIM: SirTrothX MSN: SirTroth@xxxxxxxxxxx YAHOO: SirTroth :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ----- Original Message ----- From: Sylviavandewall To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2003 8:10 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: question settings internet. Hi Troth, I am ashamed here...............I don't know!! When I start the computer my modem starts also and the only thing I do to go online is click on the shortcut on my desktop, and yes that shortcut has a name on it, and then I am online. sylvia > With your DSL, are you required to log in with a name and password before you can connect the DSL connection? > ---Troth > > > > > Hello to all, > Maybe this is not such a smart question but I want to reformat my computer WindowsME and what I would like to know is how do I log on to the internet after I have done the reformat. Where can I find the right settings for that, is that in OE Extra/Options or Internet Explorer Extra/Internet Options or do I find them at Control Panel Network. I want to write them down so I don't have to call the helpdesk to ask how to log on. I have DSL. > Thanks in advance, > Sylvia.......Holland.
