Oops!  I didn't even think about the port #.  Actually, mine is set to 587
with TLS enabled.  I don't remember how it got set this way.  It might have
been a setup wizard.  See the last post from here:

Open up the Account in question nd go to the Advanced tab.  In the SMTP port

box, it needs to be changed to 465.  Your email won't be accepted by Gmail 
over any other port.
